No. Vinyl flooring must not be installed over carpets or other soft subfloors. When using a suitable underlay, vinyl flooring can be laid as a floating floor on a levelled subfloor, OSB boards or existing level tiled flooring (do not forget to grout the joints to ensure the tiles are level).

A composite floor may or may not contain a vinyl wear layer. Such a composite floor with vinyl on top is also essentially a composite. Thanks to the SPC or HDF core board, it takes on the desirable properties of these materials – greater dimensional stability and reduced susceptibility to showing unevenness in the subfloor.

Vinyl flooring may consist of a single layer of vinyl or be made up of several layers, one of which is vinyl. In this case, only the wear layer is made of vinyl, making the flooring softer and more comfortable to walk on, whilst still having a solid core thanks to a backing board made of HDF or SPC material.
